WORLD CUP WEIGHTLIFTING IN TURKMENISTAN SET A WORLD RECORD
At the world championship in weightlifting, which opened today in Ashgabat, set the first world record, according to the state news Agency of the country.
Its authorship belongs to 16-year-old Sergio Massidda from Italy, playing in group B in a weight category to 55 kilograms. In total he raised 236 pounds, which is 1 kg more than the previous Junior record.
It is worth noted that during today’s opening ceremony, the President of the International weightlifting Federation (IWF) Tamas ajan had just hoped that in the course of current events will set new records that will be a key feature of the tournament.
He also stressed that the Turkmen side created the most favorable conditions for the competitions, including sports facilities and on behalf of the Federation expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for his support and contribution to the development of weightlifting.
Owners of medals in weight category to 55 kg among men will be known tomorrow, after the performances of the athletes of group “A”. Tomorrow will decide the winners in the lightest weight categories for women – up to 45 kilograms.
In this championship for the first time in the history of weightlifting introduced ten new weight categories in the male and female categories. Thus, the athlete 604 (321 men and 283 women) from 88 countries will compete in 20 weight categories 60 sets of medals. The championship will last till November 10.
