Kyrgyzstan: imprisoned for coup attempt ex-MPs continue hunger strike

Former Kyrgyz MPs Bektur Asanov and Kubanychbek Kadyrov (both sentenced to 12-year sentences), energy expert Ernest Karybekov (sentenced to 20 years) and former Kyrgyz state secretary Dastan Sarygulov (4-year on probation) were detained in 2016 on suspicion to stage a “forcible coup d’état” -- based on an audio conversation with the voices resembling them, released prior to their detention on the internet.

Kyrgyzstan: president says fighting corruption his priority

BISHKEK (TCA) — Corruption has penetrated deeply into the courts, prosecutor's offices, financial police, the State Committee for National Security, and the police, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov said at the country's Security Council meeting on February 8. The meeting considered measures against corruption in the judicial, law enforcement and supervisory bodies of Kyrgyzstan.
