Tajikistan launches first part of conveyor at Rogun dam construction site
AKIPRESS.COM - President of Tajikistan visited the construction site of the Rogun dam on July 25. The President was accompanied by Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda to see the progress of construction carried out around the clock at 78 blocs.
The first stop was made at the construction site of the first unit of the dam. 48 equipment items were installed there so far.
The President partook in the ceremony of inauguration of the first conveyor, which stretches for 4,200 m. It was built by Salini Impregilo for delivery of sand and stones for construction of the dam.
Over 50 million cbm of sand, stones and other construction materials were stored for construction of the dam. After construction of the second part of the dam, the conveyor will make 9 km until the top of the dam.
Rogun hydropower plant is the 9th plant in the chain of hydropower plants on the Vakhsh river, 110 km away from Dushanbe. The plant will include 6 units 600 MW each.
The dam will be 335 m high. The Rogun hydropower plant will have 3,600 MW capacity (over 17 billion kWh), making it the biggest in the region.
The first unit of the Rogun hydropower plant is expected to be launched at the end of this year.
