India aims to expand presence at military base in Tajikistan

Indian President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Ayni Air Base, which is located approximately 15 km (9 mi) west of the Tajik capital Dushanbe, during his 7-9 October trip to the Central Asian country where he signalled New Delhi's interest in expanding its presence there, official sources told Jane's .

As part of a 2002 defence deal, India, Russia, and Tajikistan agreed to operate Ayni on a rotational basis once the BRO had completed construction work at the air base.
