Kazakhstan marks highest record of foreign direct investment
The net inflow of foreign direct investments last year exceeded $14.4 billion USD, the Kazakhstani National Bank said recently, the previous record was $13.1 billion USD in 2008.
“A record inflow of foreign direct investment in 2016 has become the main source of financing for Kazakhstan’s balance of payments,” the National Bank representatives said.
According to the Bank in 2016 the gross inflow of foreign direct investment increased 40 percent compared to 2015 and was $20.6 billion USD. The funds were mainly directed to the mining industry, geological exploration and prospecting and manufacturing industries.
“One of the components of the direct investment inflow was the reinvestment of non-residents income, which exceeded $4.9 billion USD in 2016. With the growth of incomes of joint Kazakhstan enterprises, foreign investors increased their share of profits left in the country to finance the production activity of enterprises,” the representatives added.
